Community Bulletin: Express Lanes Coming to I-80 in Solano County This Fall

A new way to move forward

This Fall 2025, Solano County residents will have access to a new travel option: Express Lanes on Interstate 80 (I-80). This initiative, led by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), aims to reduce congestion, improve commute times, and create more equitable travel options for all drivers.

What are Express Lanes?

Express Lanes are designated highway lanes designed to move traffic more efficiently, especially during peak hours. They use dynamic tolling, which means the price changes depending on traffic conditions.

These lanes are designed to benefit:

• Carpoolers and ride-sharers

• Public transit and clean air vehicle drivers

• Individuals needing faster travel at key times

How does this affect our community?

We know that many of our community members travel long distances to work and that any change in transportation policy affects daily routines, income, and quality of life. That’s why we want our community to be informed about:

• How the new lanes work

• Who pays tolls and when

• What exemptions or discounts exist
